Piece of Mind

silence…

creeping…

in the mind…

meeting…

emptiness inside…

screeching…

inner walls of the big smile…

the extraversion…

forever infesting imitation with denial

no trace of the beginning

u know its been a while

its all criss crossed

mix-n-matched and borders flossed

and just you and me to cure this now

but it can’t be cured…

can it?

but how?…

Ye raat hairaan hai, jo aaj yahan chhaai hai…

chaand, taare, falak… sab ko sang bula lai hai…

khushnaseeb hain ye saare jo ye nazara dekh paenge…

suna hai inhone ki aaj do chaand nazar ayenge,

tak ke dekhenge aaj tujhey, inki kismat jo rang layi hai

kya inhe bhi pata chal gaya tu is waqt baahar ayi hai?

sochta hun ki ye bechare, kaise jalti nazron se dekhenge,

wo aasmaan ke taare jo tu apni kali sari mein samet layi hai…

Shine of pearls, fresh from the sea…

Or is it the twinkle of the stars I see?

Gleaming… dazzling… like a gypsy’s fortune ball…

Innocent… magical… enchanting… or all?

Left bedazzled… I can only wonder in glee,

These beautiful eyes could be of none but thee…

moon

moon

What is moon without his moonshine… but a barren broken face,

He longs for her, in the cold lonely night… yearnin’ her magical grace

Never seen too far from her,  oh! this hopeless helpless lover,

Wonders why then she doubted thee… for his love ending never!

Nazm uljhi hui hai seene mein

misre atke hue hain honthon par

udte-phirte hain titliyon ki tarah

lafz kaagaz pe baith te hi nahin

kabse baitha hun main jaanam

saade kaagaz pe likh ke naam tera

bas… tera naam hi mukkammal hai

is se behter bhi nazm kya hogi…

“A Wednesday”

Runtime: 100 mins

Writer/Director/Screenplay: Neeraj Pandey

Genre: Drama / Thriller / Crime

Time and again, the entertainment hungry, idol-searching, emotional and naive movie-watching community of our proud nation is given a chance to view a work of art, that skips the superfluous and brings the grimness of real life out in the loud and sometimes etiquette disabled dark halls of our PVRs and Inoxs. ‘A Wednesday’ is one such work of art. And sadly so…

Sad, because a majority of the people who will browse the ticket counter will either settle for a re-watch of ‘Rock On’ or the no-brainer ‘Ckkompany’. And this has always been the case in India. People will settle for an-excuse-for-entertainment flick rather than watch a ’serious’, without a bankable star cast and no-song movie. And in a way, it is justified. BUT! That will be a different blog!

The Good Part

Though Anupam Kher is expectedly impressive, Naseerudin Shah has just reset limits of his acting prowess! He has concentrated the tragedies, frustrations, desperations and the malevolent face of ‘The Common Man’ in this performance. His weak commercial rating as an actor has only helped him on the way. Like the Pied Piper of Hamelin, Shah drives the audience to a dark cave. In this darkness, whether the audience see Good or Evil, is a question that they will have to answer themselves.

The movie also brings, from time to time, certain moments of intelligible comic relief as well, characteristic of the real life situation that it successfully tries to show!

It’s 100 minute running time hardly deviates from the plot. A modest but ruthless thriller that builds interest as story unfolds and leaves the audience at the climax with a very interesting thought.

The Bad part

Apart from Anupam’s and Naseeruddin Shah’s, there is no standout performance. It may be a little too much of an ask, but personally, I would have loved to see another ‘bhikhu matre’ type performance. Or maybe the air-tight plot wouldn’t have been able to accommodate that much!

Deepal Shaw was thankfully given only a cameo (I would like to imagine that’s what is really was!!!). Jimmy Shergill’s performance almost did prove worthy of his character (barring the lady-like smacks that he distributes among the policemen and criminals with equal fragility). Aamir Bashir was decent too.

The only awkward feel, to me, came from the dubbed voices which, somehow felt a little too rich for the situation/character(s).

Bottom Line

IF you can make yourself go to the theatre and sit for 5 minutes, the movie is good enough to keep you glued. A  gripping and relevant screenplay with a rather humble but impressive enactment.

RATING: 4
